Scaffold Hire in Leicester

What is scaffolding, and why is it used? Scaffolding is a temporary access solution used in construction, maintenance, and repair works. Made from materials such as steel or aluminium, it provides safe working platforms at various heights, enabling operatives to work safely and efficiently in areas that are difficult to reach.

Do I need scaffolding for my project? Scaffolding provides a safe platform for any work at height. It is Ideal for roof repairs, EWI, high level painting, construction, maintenance and difficult access. If you are not sure, call us to discuss whether you require scaffolding as there are other solutions e.g. Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (Mewps), Rope Access etc

How do I choose the right type of scaffolding for a project? City Access Limited can help you choose the correct type of scaffolding by considering several factors: The height and complexity of the work. What the scaffolding must support e.g. the workers, tools, materials, the overall weight. The ground conditions where the scaffolding will be erected. Accessibility needs for the workers. Regulations and standards that need to be adhered to.

How long can I have the scaffolding up for? Scaffolding can stay up as long as needed, however, there are things to consider: Our quotations include 4 weeks rental, if the scaffolding is required for longer periods, please advise City Access Limited at the quote stage and we can discuss your specific details, however, this may include additional payments to cover permits, inspections and replacement items. Boards will also deteriorate over time and be deemed unusable if not replaced.

How much will my scaffolding cost? When do I need a permit for scaffolding? On Public Land: Anytime scaffolding encroaches onto public land, such as a footpath, road, or verge, a licence is mandatory for public safety. Private property: You do not need a permit e.g. a garden/drive or within the property boundary. Permits are arranged through the Local Authority; in Leicester we apply for these on your behalf, in other counties the rules can be different. Leicester City Council Permits are charged at £53 per week. Leicester County Council Permits are charged £110 for every 2 weeks. Please allow us approx. 5 working days to apply for permits, await checks and receive the permit from the council before we can start work.

Why is scaffolding considered safe? Competent Person: Only trained and competent individuals should erect, dismantle, or alter scaffolding, following strict guidelines such as TG20:21 Inspection: Regular inspections by a competent person are crucial, especially after severe weather or inactivity, with a Scaff tag signifying it's safe for use. Design & Stability: Scaffolds must be properly tied to the building, footed correctly, and designed to prevent structural failure or overloading. Fall Prevention: Guardrails, toe boards, and safety nets are vital; missing features dramatically increase fall risks. Protection from Falling Objects: Brick guards, Debris Netting, Sheeting and toe boards prevent tools and materials from falling below. Power Lines: Maintain safe distances from power lines, we can contact utility companies to de-energize or insulate them if necessary but this will take time and will add to the schedule. Good Housekeeping: Keep platforms clear of debris, trailing cables, and obstacles to prevent slips, trips, and falls.

What is TG20? TG20:21 is the UK's official industry standard for tube and fitting scaffolding, providing best practices for design, assembly, and inspection, accessible via NASC (National Access & Scaffolding Confederation) Key Aspects of TG20:21: Comprehensive Guidance: This is the definitive manual for tube and fitting scaffolding in the UK, covering safety, compliance, and good practice. Updated Designs: The 2021 version includes more compliant designs for structures like exterior birdcages, mobile towers, and loading bays. Enhanced Compliance Sheets: Generates detailed, illustrated compliance sheets for simpler verification. Improved Features: Offers more efficient ways to create compliant scaffold designs, streamlining projects. What it Means for Projects: Safety: Ensures scaffolds meet high safety standards, reducing risks. Timeframes: Reduced timeframes, as builds that fit within the TG20 portfolio do not need design drawings which also has a cost benefit. Efficiency: Streamlines design and inspection, minimising delays. Insurability: Helps projects meet insurance requirements by demonstrating compliance. In essence, TG20:21 is the essential technical standard for safe and compliant tube and fitting scaffolding in the UK construction industry.

How long will it take to put up a scaffolding? Small Residential: From a few hours up to 1 - 2 days. Medium Commercial Building: 3 to 5 days. Large Industrial Projects/High-Rises:1 to 2 weeks or more if requiring complex engineering.
